June
Here I am finally getting around to writing about June at the end of July. Being a Martha’s Vineyard native, and also having worked in hospitality and events in New England for my entire working life; a jam packed summer schedule is really the only kind of summer schedule I’ve ever had.
I’ll spotlight our events in more detail, in posts I’ll curate during the off season in order to give them the time and attention they deserve. For now, here’s a little sneak peek:
Our first wedding of the season was held on the summer solstice, and the longest day of the year went by in an instant! It was an unseasonably warm and sunny day- it truly felt like the first day of summer happened right on schedule. The ceremony and reception were both held at a beautifully landscaped and lush private property in the Oak Bluffs Woodland Preserve. The couple rolled up in a white vintage convertible, and the family dog followed the bride down the aisle right on cue. The tent was filled with a variety of bright colorful statement florals, simple white linens, elegant chandelier lighting and a whole lot of love. The night ended with a gourmet s’mores station around a big fire pit peppered with fireflies and belly laughs. It felt like the perfect kick off to summer, and to the rest of their lives.
The following weekend we were on to another backyard wedding, this time at the iconic Turtle Pond property in West Tisbury. It was a beautifully cloudy day, which paired perfectly with the simple florals, pastel linen hues and general feel of coastal elegance. Among the many thoughtful components the bride and groom provided for the decor, was a framed page of their high school year book, where they had been voted most likely to get married. The whole thing couldn’t have felt more meant to be, like the little peak of sunshine we got just in time for golden hour photos. The only thing more palpable than the love and joy was the delightful combination of sea salt from the nearby shoreline and smokey barbecue from Tim Larsen’s Catering set up that filled the air. Eventually I broke down my coordination end of things, and Zach broke down the power, and we got ourselves set up to do it all over again the next day.
Next up was the Animal Shelter of MV Garden Party- their big annual fundraising event and auction. It was held at a private residence right on the Great Pond, and filled with local vendors selling goods, delicious bites, local music, and even the world renowned Tony the Painting Pony.
If you know Zach and I, you know how deeply we love animals, and our local animal shelter. Doing this event was an honor and a no brainer, and a tent filled with (400!) likeminded people who share a big love for our furry friends was truly something special. There were a bunch of audio visual components, and it’s always a treat to get to work with Peter Sawyer of Productions MV. And of course, to be able to provide him and the entire event with the incredibly important electrical power. We look forward to working on this one again next year!
After that marathon month we took part in about 4.5 seconds of R&R before we jumped right into a busy July- but more on that in my next blog post. For now I can say it was filled with prep for a busy fall wedding season, a corporate event, and another big fundraising event, this time for a United States Congressman- what an honor! And of course because event coordinators are also time travelers, there was a bunch of work on 2026 events sprinkled in there as well.
And last but certainly not least, I can officially say we have partnered with a local media outlet to produce a Martha’s Vineyard food and events centric newsletter! Local journalism is so important and close to my heart, and getting to step back into writing about the industry I grew up in, work in, and love, has been the perfect marriage of all of my favorite things. We are launching tomorrow, and I cannot wait to share more!
Cheers to summer and our beautiful little corner of the world in full swing. Oh and cheers to Chilmark Coffee. My ability to function is brought to you by them.
